The last in a series of images from a trip to Chilé, the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica. From the Falklands, to South Georgia and Antarctica we travelled on the MV Plancius with Cheesman's Ecology Safaris and we joined a group brought together by our good friend, Glenn Bartley, a world-renowned professional nature photographer.

In September 2023, we travelled to the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica. Before that trip we toured the lakes district of Chilé, Torres del Paine in Patagonia and returning via Argentina, Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas.

San Ignacio Miní and Moconá, Misiones, Argentina
St Ignacio miní is a Jesuit mission founded in 1633 in Misiones (miss-i-on-eys) during the period of the Spanish conquistadors. The mission housed two Jesuit priests and 3 000 mostly indigenous Guaraní (wa-rani) people, converting them to Christianity and bring them under the control of the Spanish crown to become tax-paying and useful members of society. St Ignacio is now a Unesco world heritage site. The miní distinguishes it from the larger guazú (great) mission. Portuguese banderantes caused havoc in their search and hunt for slaves, the indigenous Indians being prime targets. The Jesuits influence and riches rivalled that of the Spanish crown and they were expelled in 1767, at which time the mission fell into disuse and ruin. Moconá hosts horizontal falls three kilometres long and when fully visible vary from five to seven metres high, but covered over at other times when the water flow is high.
